MDG 2 Closed Auditions: Part 1

The time has come! 25 of the best of Malaysia congregated at Tune Hotels before being shuttled to Capxion Media’s studio for the Closed Auditions. I’ve stayed at Tune Hotels before and it’s clean and affordable.
I was surprised by this batch of finalists – they seem to come from a wide range of backgrounds and ethnicities which is always a Good Thing (TM).
I managed to interview a couple of them – did the standard Q&A plus a bonus question so without further ado:
Name: Acha
Age: 23
DOB: 21st September 1986 (Virgo)
Hails from: Klang
Reason for joining: It’s the right platform to show the people what she has what it takes to be Malaysia’s top model
Day job: Studying at Petronas University. She’s doing Mechanical Engineering and she’s in her third year.
Hobbies: Swimming, cooking, shopping
Her deepest fear: She’s afraid of being interviewed, coz she’s nervous in front of the camera
Her dream: Acha wants to be Malaysia’s Top Model and to excel in everything she does.
Trivia: She has a lucky star – a birthmark (location TBA). She also owns her own cybercafé in Terengganu!
My take: Acha has ambition, and I love that in a person. She’s also intelligent and communicates well. She’s doing Mechanical Engineering and she knows what she wants to be – Malaysia’s Top Model and excel in everything she does. I think she’s definitely going into the finals.
Name: Annabelle
Age: 25
DOB: 21st April 1984 (Taurus)
Hails from: Melaka
Reason for joining: Annabelle watched MDG Season 1 and wanted to join, just to try something different.
Day job: Consultant in an accounting firm in Singapore – she actually got permission to do this from her company (which will not be revealed)
Hobbies: Travelling, food (desserts) - especially chocolates.
Her deepest fear: Losing family members.
Her dream: To travel the world…sponsored, of course.
Trivia: She has never celebrated Valentine’s Day before. She’s totally serious – whenever she’s in a relationship, it always ends before Valentine’s Day.
My take: She’s mature and can hold up her end of the conversation. I like her confidence and her openness.
Name: Farah
Age: 18
Hails from: Ampang
Reason for joining: Farah is looking to gain experience to kickstart her modelling career.
Day job: Student (waiting for SPM results)
Hobbies: Reading, writing, playing the guitar, talking to new people.
Her deepest fear: She has a phobia of snakes.
Her dream: She wants to be rich but NOT famous.
Trivia: She’s very emotional and sensitive, and she can’t stop thinking about random things.
My take: I can relate to Farah, for reasons which will not be disclosed here. A girl who plays the guitar, that’s always a plus point. :) I appreciate her honesty about her dream – the reason given for the rich-but-not-famous quote is coz rich people tend to get a lot of unwanted attention…she just wants to be rich.
Name: Pinky
Age: 21
DOB: 7th July 1988 (Cancer)
Hails from: Setapak, KL
Reason for joining: She wants to further her modelling career. She’s already a model, mostly doing magazine shoots
Day job: Full time model
Hobbies: Singing, dancing, watching drama series (TVB)
Her deepest fear: She is afraid of not being able to model anymore. Modelling is her life and she fears that she can’t be young and beautiful forever.
Her dream: Pinky wants to be a supermodel, failing that, a professional make-up artist.
Trivia: It was her boyfriend who actually encouraged her to join MDG 2!
My take: Pinky has potential…she’s already a full time model and she’s honest with her answers, which some might take as a little superficial, but it’s honestly I value. :) Promising. I like her.
Name: Dawn
Age: 23
DOB: 27th October 1985 (Scorpio)
Hails from: KL
Reason for joining: Dawn likes modelling and has been on modelling contests before.
Day job: Advertising – she quit two months ago due to…well, logistics. She had to carry a lot of heavy stuff and she was getting back pain coz of it.
Hobbies: She likes to learn anything new. Dawn is also into inline skating, and a lot of other outdoor sports
Her deepest fear: She has a fear of heights. It’s related to falling due to her back problems
Her dream: To make money doing what she loves – and this is part of the reason she quit her job. “Pursue passion first, before money”.
Trivia: She likes to dance alone in her room.
My take: Dawn is a very friendly person and I was surprised when she told me she used to be very shy. There are a lot of people rooting for her, and I like her motto in life – to pursue passion first, and do what you like doing, and vice versa, enjoy what you like doing.
Name: Liana
Age: 27
DOB: 12th Sept 1982 (Virgo)
Hails from: Ipoh (but stays in KL)
Reason for joining: Liana aims to build her career with modelling. She already has a fearsome repertoire doing commercials – she was featured in Maggi, Kotex, BHP, Bridgestone and other TVCs. She wants to be a catwalk model though.
Day job: She’s currently studying Events Management in Sunday. She also helps out in her boyfriend’s restaurant.
Hobbies: Travelling, karaoke, singing, rock climbing, reading
Her deepest fear: She’s afraid of not having a happy domestic life in the future when she gets married.
Her dream: In her words, “to own a big house, big car, and have everything that she wants”.
Trivia: Liana used to be an air stewardess with MAS. She also likes to watch movies alone when she’s feeling sad. It’s her therapy.
My take: Liana is about my age, and she has lived her dream, being a cabin attendant with MAS before going into TVCs. She aims to expand to catwalk modelling. I like the complete honestly with which she responded to the dream question. I told her it was mine too. Who doesn’t want to be rich?

just a comment for sixthseal: this post seems like u’re trying to please everyone too much. as a contributor, it’d be much more interesting if u were more opinionated, instead of constantly saying things like, ‘i like her honesty…’ or ‘i like her motto in life…’ yawn. anyone can do that u see. tell us what u really think.
just my two cents for improving the mdg blog.

Well, we can’t comment too much on what the writer wrote on the girls, because maybe all the girls are really nice, or maybe that’s also what he actually thinks. Moreover, I don’t think he can tell much from just a simple Q&A. We’ll get to know more about the girls and most probably all the bad stuffs later on. ;-D

Traclyn Yeoh: Small world! Dawn, one of the girls I’m rooting for. She’s really friendly and has a nice personality.
potty: Heh! That’s her sultry look, the judges mentioned something along that line.
rina: Okay, I’ll spent the most time with Dawn and Acha, so I’m rooting for them. I don’t know much about the others, when I spend more time with the girls, I will be able to know more about them and give better commentary. Thanks for the feedback!

Ernisle: Thanks! Yeah, I spent the most time with Dawn, she has a lot of people rooting for her. Acha made a really good impression on me, more about that in the next post. It takes time to really know a person, interviews are quick 15 min stuff.

aha. its ok la babe. they are commercial. u r high fashion kan :) some of the ppl tak cukup knowledge fashion. try to ask them whose Lakshi Menon semua. They dont read VOGUE and stuffs. ala mcm Jay juga. She have the weird face kan? As in EXOTIC. In the end who got the most job?

hi raj. I think you look good. but frankly speaking, if you take comments too personal, how are you going to survive in the modelling career? everyone has their own views about others, and because you brought all of this up, don’t you think that it’s a little too sensitive to do so? Just my two cents.

If you are in a not good position and have no money to go out from that point, you would require to receive the loans. Just because it would help you definitely. I take sba loan every single year and feel fine because of this.
